CES 2012: Forget About Phones

Qualcomm is well known for phone chips, but the company has been working on what is, essentially, a giant power mat for electric cars. Qualcomm wants to put wireless charging pads in roads as well as parking lots, with the intent of having vehicles charge as they drive. Another thing is that very little energy is lost during transfer, as these pads have a charging efficiency of 90%, which is very impressive.

Qualcomm is currently testing its technology on two prototype Citroen vehicles in the U.K., as well as a retrofitted version of the electric Rolls Royce Phantom released last year.
